Faith in the Unseen

When we were expecting our 8th grandchild, I had the privilege of going with my daughter to an ultrasound appointment. I could not tire watching the screen! As the paddle was moved around, I was able to see baby’s body parts that were recognizable, such as spine, hands, and beating heart, and then those images that were only speculations. He kicked, turned over, sucked his thumb and even appeared to wave. What a joy! The ultrasound technology is quite an invention, necessary in some cases and strictly recreational for others. Very routine now days and how did we manage without it? I believe faith used to play a more important part in this and all other life experiences for many people. As I was pondering this portion of the “miracle in progress,” three verses came to mind. Psalm 139:13 in the Amplified Bible reads, “For You did form my inward parts; You did knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Even ultrasounds can’t show everything that we think we need to know, not 100%. God has a purpose for each new life and has, does, and always will love each one. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith and not by sight.” We could see the new life within, for a short time, but when the screen was turned off, faith should again take over. Faith should not be turned off and on. It must be practiced every second, minute, hour, day, etc.  Hebrews 11:1: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” That day, I could not see my grandson, but my hope was secure in the Creator of all things and God’s love endures forever!
